Secondary School really went by like that.
I know many don't mention about their secondary school lives, and there's probably people who are out there trying to find out such information but can't. Here is my summary of secondary school - fun, and constant pressure. I come from a neighbourhood secondary school (people say its the best school in the area). When I first entered the school, the cut off was 234. My PSLE score was the cut off. Honestly, it feels bad because it meant that I had to work harder to ensure I wasn't the last. Of course, PSLE doesn't mean anything yet. You still had a chance to do even better than before. I worked hard in Secondary 1 and 2, just to get into the class that I want (due to streaming). Eventually I made it in to the Double Science and double Humanities class. I took my favourite subject, Pure History with much joy. However, I was starting to play in secondary 3. I ended up doing badly, which served as a wake up call for me towards the end of secondary 3. I ended up starting afresh in Secondary 4 as I did my work consistently, and started to do my TYS very early on for the subjects that I was really weak in. I ended up doing better in the first half of Secondary 4. But my grades were still really bad for certain subjects like Pure Chemistry, Pure Physics, English, A Maths and HCL. By really bad, I mean c6 to e8... Of course, I never gave up. Honestly, I cried halfway through the journey. I was working so hard and my teachers could see the efforts as well. But why wasn't I doing well? The only subject that kept me going was my humanities as I excelled in them and was even awarded the top student award for History(spoiler: I didn't get an A1 for it though lol). I ended up consulting my teachers a lot, redoing my notes over and over, and redoing practice papers as well as the TYS a few times. I would wake up early just to go to the library and study. My lunch time would be 15-20 minutes long, where I went down to buy Old Chang Kee, then eat it on the way up. I wasn't going to risk the blue slip of paper from the librarian or get my items moved. During the week before the start of my exams, I would start to stay at home since I didn't want to waste time travelling out. The days before my exam would be a final read up and looking through all the mistakes I have done, as well as memorising any content that I need to. In the end, I did it. Though it wasn't what I totally expected, I wasn't far from it. Far enough to not get into a top school, but still good enough to get into a decent JC that my parents like. AJC. I managed to scrape an A from almost all my subjects except 3, which had gotten B3. After deduction, my L1R5 was 7 and it was good enough to get into NYJC. Eventually I didn't make the cut due to high demands, but it all worked out for the best because AJC is a place that I'm proud to call home and if I could go back in time, I would put AJC as my first choice.
